Rough-Toothed Dolphin (Steno bredanensis)

Tall dorsal fin in mid‑back

Elongated melon with concave forehead

Tail has two wide curved lobes

Long slender beak

Large, distinctive pectoral flippers

Dark cape

Light spots on sides and underside

  • Length: Medium dolphin measuring roughly 2–2.65 metres

  • Group Size: Typically 10–30; sometimes over one hundred

  • Key Features: Long beak, dark cape, mottled sides, white jaw, forehead slopes steeply in concave shape

  • Behaviour: Fast swimmer; dives deeply and bow‑rides occasionally

  • Habitat: Deep tropical to subtropical waters over 1500 metres

  • Conservation Status: Listed as Least Concern on the IUCN Red List
