Pantropical Spotted Dolphin (Stenella attenuata)

Dark grey fin with curved back edge

Clear crease between beak and forehead

Long, slim body overall

Dark stripe between jaw and eye

Light grey belly with dark spots

Pale dots on dark body patch

Long narrow beak, pale tip

Small curved flippers with sharp tips

  • Length: Medium dolphin measuring roughly 2–2.5 metres

  • Group Size: Highly social, forming large groups of hundreds

  • Key Features:  Dark cape and back with white spots; long, white-tipped beak. Spots may be absent on juveniles

  • Behaviour: Acrobatic swimmer; frequent bow‑riding and aerial leaps

  • Habitat: Tropical to subtropical Indo‑Pacific coastal and offshore waters

  • Conservation Status: Listed as Least Concern on the IUCN Red List
