Pacific White-Sided Dolphin (Lagenorhynchus obliquidens)

Mostly dark grey or blue-black black

Tall hooked dorsal fin, bicolored

Dark pointed flukes on both surfaces

Small dark patch around the eye

Short dark beak

Curved flippers with bluntly rounded tips

White underside

Gently sloping forehead

White or pale grey side blazes, variable

  • Length: Medium dolphin measuring roughly 1.7–2.5 metres

  • Group Size: Highly gregarious; groups often hundreds to thousands

  • Key Features: Tall hooked dorsal fin, gray stripes, white belly

  • Behaviour: Acrobatic; bow‑riding, leaping, flipping, somersaulting

  • Habitat: Temperate North Pacific offshore and near‑shore waters

  • Conservation Status: Listed as Least Concern on the IUCN Red List
