Indo-Pacific Finless Porpoise (Neophocaena phocaenoides)

No fin—just a bumpy ridge

Adults grey; calves dark-to-light

Tail flukes have a concave edge

Rounded head, steep forehead, no beak

Mouth curves upward toward the eyes

Long flippers ending in rounded tips

  • Length: Small porpoise measuring roughly 1.5–1.9 metres

  • Group Size: Solitary or tiny groups, usually under four

  • Key Features: No dorsal fin; dorsal ridge with horny papillae; rounded head with no clear beak

  • Behaviour: Slow surfacing; short dives lasting 11–15 seconds

  • Habitat: Shallow coastal and riverine waters

  • Conservation Status: Listed as Vulnerable on the IUCN Red List
