Gray Whale (Eschrictius robustus)

Dorsal fin forms small hump

Knuckles show between hump and tail

Ragged, pointed tips on flukes

Shallow dip around the blowholes

Narrow head with rising slope

Broad paddle‑like flipper shape

Grey skin showing pale spots

  • Length: Medium‑large baleen whale measuring about 12–15 metres

  • Group Size: Usually solitary or in small seasonal groups

  • Key Features: Mottled gray body, barnacle patches, low dorsal knuckles

  • Behaviour: Coastal migration, side‑swimming feeding, frequent spy-hopping

  • Habitat: Shallow coastal waters along long migratory routes

  • Conservation Status: Listed as Least Concern on the IUCN Red List
