Small curved fin leaning backward
Dark upper body, bright white underside
Flat, straight head profile
Robust tail stock with ridge
Right lip white, left lip dark
Broad flukes with a deep notch
Light streaks behind eye and flipper
50-100 throat grooves that extend to navel
Narrow flipper; dark top, white below

Length: Second‑largest whale, typically reaching 20–25 metres

Group Size: Usually solitary or in small migratory groups

Key Features: Long slender body, grey dorsum, white right lower jaw and underside

Behaviour: Fast swimmer with deep dives while feeding

Habitat: Temperate to polar oceans, mainly offshore waters

Conservation Status: Listed as Vulnerable on the IUCN Red List
