Dwarf Sperm Whale (Kogia sima)

Pale crescent-shaped marking behind eye

Small, curved fin mid‑back

Tail flukes have a middle notch

Squared off pointed rostrum

Narrow underslung jaw

Wide, rounded pectoral fins

Short but wide-shaped body

Light grey to white belly

  • Length: Very small whale measuring roughly 2–2.7 metres

  • Group Size: Usually solitary or in very small groups

  • Key Features: Small curved dorsal fin, false gill mark, compact body

  • Behaviour: Slow, inconspicuous swimmer, often 'logging' at the surface; releases ink‑like fluid when threatened

  • Habitat: Deep offshore tropical to temperate oceanic waters

  • Conservation Status: Listed as Least Concern on the IUCN Red List
