BRYDE'S WHALE (Balaenoptera edeni)

Slender, streamlined body shape

Gray dorsal side, white ventral side

Hooked dorsal fin on mid‑back

Broad tail with sharp center notch

Three ridges from snout to blowhole

40-70 throat grooves that extended all the way to the umbilicus

Short, slim, sharply pointed flippers

  • Length: Medium rorqual whale measuring approximately 12–14 metres

  • Group Size: Typically solitary or in small, loosely associated groups

  • Key Features: Three head ridges, dark grey body, pointed dorsal fin

  • Behaviour: Fast swimmer, deep dives while pursuing schooling prey

  • Habitat: Warm tropical–subtropical coastal and pelagic waters

  • Conservation Status: Listed as Least Concern on the IUCN Red List
