Spinner Dolphin (Stenella longirostris)

Triangular, erect, slightly curved dorsal fin

Slender beak, dark top and tip, pale underside​

Distinct three‑band pattern: dark, gray, pale

Slightly rounded forehead

Dark grey cape

Dark jaw‑to‑eye band reaching flipper

Curved, pointed flippers, dark above and below

Males often have a tail‑base bulge

  • Length: Small, slender dolphin measuring roughly 1.3–2.1 metres

  • Group Size: Social species forming variable, ever‑changing schools

  • Key Features: Long beak, tripartite coloration, highly variable morphs

  • Behaviour: Famous for spinning leaps and aerial displays

  • Habitat: Tropical offshore waters; rests in shallow coastal bays

  • Conservation Status: Listed as Least Concern on the IUCN Red List
