Very tall, pointed, sickle‑shaped dorsal fin

Large, pointed tail flukes, darker toned

Large, rounded head with no beak

Long, pointed, curved pectoral flippers

Robust front body tapering to narrow tail

  • Length: Large dolphin measuring roughly 2.6–4 metres

  • Group Size: Typically 3–12; sometimes thousands in aggregations

  • Key Features: Blunt head, tall fin, heavy white scarring

  • Behaviour: Social, active; breaching, chasing, aggressive interactions

  • Habitat: Pelagic slopes 400–1200 m near shelves, canyons

  • Conservation Status: Listed as Least Concern on the IUCN Red List
