Pygmy Sperm Whale (Kogia breviceps)

Dark bluish‑grey top, pale underside

Curved dorsal fin set far back

Concave shape with inward curve

Large, blunt, conical head

Thin, sharp teeth only in lower jaw

Light bracket‑shaped mark on head

Short, wide fins positioned forward

  • Length: Small toothed whale measuring roughly 2.7–3.5 metres

  • Group Size: Usually solitary or in very small groups

  • Key Features: Shark‑like head, small dorsal fin, false gill mark

  • Behaviour:  Slow, inconspicuous swimmer, often 'logging' at the surface

  • Habitat: Deep offshore tropical to temperate oceanic waters

  • Conservation Status: Listed as Least Concern on the IUCN Red List
