Smooth back with no dorsal fin

Exceptionally slender, almost eel-like

White underside; grey‑to‑black upper flukes

Small melon and very short beak

Short beak and straight long jawline

White chest band widening between flippers

Small thin flippers with pointed tips

  • Length: Medium dolphin measuring roughly 2.1–3.1 metres

  • Group Size: Very social; pods average 100–200 animals

  • Key Features: Slender black body, white ventral stripe, no dorsal fin

  • Behaviour: Fast swimmer; low leaps, belly flops, rapid surfacing

  • Habitat: Cool deep North Pacific waters, offshore and slope zones

  • Conservation Status: Listed as Least Concern on the IUCN Red List
